What is Air Krete?
Air Krete is a highly efficient, R3.9-per-inch, mineral-based, foam-in-place insulation comprised of 100 percent nontoxic materials. Developed more than 25 years ago, Air Krete has been used across the United States and Canada in applications ranging from insulating single family homes to fireproofing in commercial buildings and soundproofing in professional sound studios.
While all conventional materials offer energy savings which pay for themselves over time, Air Krete offers a feature money can’t buy—your peace of mind.
Things to Consider
In the Pacific Northwest, there are a few essential elements to consider when insulating and air-sealing an existing home: air, fire and water. How will your insulation prevent air leakage? How will your insulation affect your family in case of fire? And how will your insulation handle moisture? These are essential questions to ask.
Air Leakage
Did you know air leakage alone equals 30 percent of a home’s energy loss? Air Krete fills any shaped cavity completely insulating against both conductive and convective energy loss. This not only provides you with a comfortable, stable indoor environment, but saves a substantial amount off your heating bills.
Fireproofing
Did you know most uninsulated homes lack any sort of fireproofing system and conventional insulations are not designed for fire-blocking? With Air Krete, if a fire breaks out, it will not add to the fire in any way–not as food for the fire and not as a way for air to pass through to the fire. Air Krete is the only insulation whose characteristics lend themselves to be used around chimneys and flues which can be significant sources for air leakage and drafts.
Water & Moisture
Did you know moisture-related issues are the number one cause for premature building failure in the Seattle area? Water vapor management is essential to your home’s Indoor Air Quality (IAQ), and while effectively sealing your home against air leakage, Air Krete foam insulation also helps regulate your indoor humidity by allowing a low rate of vapor diffusion. This is especially helpful in an existing home where there is no vapor barrier in place to prevent moisture buildup between your insulation and the wall’s sheathing. By depriving mold spores of the environment required for them to grow, Air Krete helps keep the air you breathe clean and comfortable.
